GAME ON, DAYTON AREA- SCHOOLS & BUSINESSES

A friendly yearlong competition that is open to businesses and organizations of all sizes to reduce costs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and resources used. New this year, the Healthy Schools Platform. This separate track is designed to groom a new generation of sustainable thinkers!

Players assess their sustainability practices and make improvements in 4 categories:

Energy Savings

Water Conservation

Waste Reduction

employee/Student engagement

Energy Savings:

75% of all electricity produced in the U.S. is used to operate buildings. According to the EPA about 30% of building energy is used inefficiently or unnecessarily.

Reduction in energy consumption means less combustion of fossil fuels for heating and cooling and electrical use within the building. Less pollution is created.

Water Conservation:

Our region is known for its water resources with more than 6,000 miles of rivers and streams that recharge a vast 1.5 trillion gallon buried valley aquifer.

Your business can do its part to preserve this valuable resource while saving on water costs. Maximize your water efficiencies to reduce potable water needs and reduce burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems.

Waste Reduction:

By creating an effective recycling program a significant portion of the solid waste stream can be diverted from landfills. Recycling of paper, metals, cardboard and plastics reduces the need to extract virgin natural resources.

Waste reduction programs can reduce hauling and disposal costs by enabling you to reduce the frequency of pickups. Revenues from increased recycling activities can also help offset disposal costs.

Employee Engagement:

The success of a sustainability program depends as much on people as it does on technology and procedures. You can improve your building's HVAC system and lighting, landscaping practices, even cleaning practices, but your building will only be as efficient as its occupants. Teaming up with your students, tenants and employees can help you reap even more benefits and savings.
